Third time could be the charm!

Wednesday, June 27. 2007

I've been doing pretty well in therapy lately, but I'd hit a plateau with my knee hurting, and not having the strength to control my ascent or descent on the stairs. I checked with my doctor on my next scheduled visit, only to find out that the femur hadn't been healing correctly and a screw at the bottom of the rod came loose. So last Monday, June 25, I went in for the third surgery on that femur. This time, they removed the existing rod, put in a slightly thicker rod (to encourage bone growth), put a fitting that helps pull the two broken ends of bone closer together, and got checked for a bone infection.

I traded the wheels for legs

Just an update for those who get their news from my blog... I'm out of the wheelchair and handling physical therapy pretty well. The full post is rather lengthy - please click to read the whole thing.

The pollution of FWD:

Wednesday, November 15. 2006

I don't get as many forwarded emails as many people. One reason for this is that I make it clear to family and friends that I just delete forwarded emails, ask them never to forward anything to me, and try to make it clear that I'd love to hear the words of my loved ones, I just don't have time for forwarded jokes and such. I hope I'm not coming off as cold-shouldering anyone; I'm just trying to keep a clean inbox.

Despite that approach, every now and again someone will forward an email to me, and sometimes I read them without first noticing that it's a forward. Most times, I glance at it, see that it's forwarded and just delete it. Every now and again, out of boredom or curiosity (This person never forwards anything to me, and knows better than to forward it to me. There must be something really important if I'm getting it...), I'll read a post, as was the case with this one. Although I was going to just delete it when I was done, it got under my skin that people write such filth and it spreads like wildfire, so I replied to it, and thought I'd include my reply here:

UPDATE 5/14/07:

Just as a follow-up, nobody replied to that email. I had a number of fruitful conversations with parents and siblings, but nobody else, some of whom have the tendency to spread these hateful emails around took the time to reply by phone, by email, in person, or otherwise. It takes but a second to forward an email. It takes the time of a person of conviction to compose their own thoughts and expose them to the discussion.

An update on the wheelchair

Monday, November 6. 2006

My brother asked me why I don't blog about it, and friends have called, unknowing, when first they hear, and sometimes I don't realize there are people that I know, who don't know what's up with me.

I was just thinking...

It's more satisfying to want what you don't have than it is to have what you don't want.
